Homework
Homework extends the concepts taught in the classroom. The South Whittier Board of Trustees believes students’ education is the responsibility of both school and home. Homework is a valuable and necessary part of a student’s education. Homework helps to build responsibility, discipline and study habits. Listed are some of the kinds of activities assigned for homework:
Kindergarten 15 minutes per day 3 – 4 days per week
Grades 1 – 3 60 minutes per day 4 days per week
Grades 4 – 6 90 minutes per day 4 – 5 days per week
- Daily assignment extension and / or completion
- Project assignments which may be of extended duration.
- Experimental or research experiences
- Interest and hobby projects: library and independent reading, family excursions, television and radio programs
- Concentration and study habits of the student
- The rate at which the student works
- The age and vitality of the student
