The mission of South Whittier School District is to prepare every student for success in high school and beyond by focusing on the core academic subjects in an effective and integrated curriculum.
We believe:
All students can learn.
Students learn best when they are engaged in challenging and appropriate learning focused on the core academic subjects of language arts, mathematics, science and social studies integrated with physical education and the fine arts.
Quality teachers are the single greatest predictor of student success.
The diversity and uniqueness of each student should be respected.
Students learn best when families value education, and teach their children to accept increasing responsibility for their own learning.
Quality education improves the quality of life for students, their families, and the community now and in the future.
We are looking forward to another productive and successful year at McKibben Elementary. Our mission and vision statements reflect a dedicated focus on student achievement and the success of every child. Our mission and vision statements can be found posted in every classroom, the office, the library and the multipurpose room. I am very pleased to announce that our students made excellent growth during the 2010-11 school year. Overall, McKibben Elementary improved by 14 points on our Academic Performance Index. This score is based on our math, reading science, and writing results from the California State Standards tests given to all second through sixth grade students. Our current Academic Performance Index score is now 824 For the past three years, we have continued to make steady growth beyond the state target of 800. After surpassing 800, we modifed our theme to "800 and Beyond." to reflect our continued growth. For the 2011-2012 school year, we are implementing the Accelerated Reader Program, opening a state of the art Computer Lab, and participating in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) initialtive. Parents and teachers work very closely together in the best interest of the students at McKibben. We have a very active PTA, School Site Council, and other parent groups. Together, in partnership with our parents, we will make a difference for every McKibben student.
